CONCOURSE LAKE RESTORATION PROJECT

MISSION:

To promote and support the efforts of the City of Philadelphia to enhance and invigorate the Centennial District of Fairmount Park.

VISION:

The environmental restoration and horticultural beautification of the underutilized and neglected area surrounding the Concourse Lake storm water reservoir.

ROLES:

  • EXPAND awareness of and interest in Concourse Lake
  • PROVIDE design and horticultural expertise
  • ORGANIZE skilled professional and volunteer personnel for work on site
  • FORGE relationships to establish on-going stewardship
  • PROPAGATE tree specimens to be planted in Philadelphia

GOALS:

  • TRANSFORM the Concourse Lake area into a vibrant resource that connects visitors and community residents both to nature and to the rich cultural resources of the Centennial District.
  • RESTORE native plant material, using the developing standards for sustainable landscaping, to restrict storm water run off and create habitat.
  • EDUCATE visitors about the role of plant material in improving water quality and providing appropriate habitat for fish, birds, and small creatures.
