GCA 2013 Tree Project - Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Garden Club of America

In response to Fairmount Park's requested support for the restoration of Concourse Lake, the garden clubs of Pennsylvania and Delaware of the Garden Club of America worked with the City of Philadelphia, Fairmount Park, the Fairmount Park Conservancy, and community groups to attain the goal of the Master Plan for the Centennial District. This restoration project has already reinvigorated an under-utilized section of the Park and connects community residents and visitors both to nature and to the rich cultural assets of the Centennial District. The educational tree-walk weaves through new groves of native trees, shrubs, and ground covers increasing the tree canopy, reducing storm water run-off and providing a more natural forest ecosystem in which visitors may walk, picnic, and play.
